THE CASINOToo much smoke!!!! . . . now that that is said . . .We had trouble entering the casino because my Asian friends ID was supposedly expired. He is 37 years old and does not look like he would be under 21 years old. The security guard requested his ID, and refused to let him enter because she claimed his ID had expired. Dont get me wrong, I understand that the security guard was just doing her job, but if the purpose of checking the ID is to verify age, and the ID shows that the person is many years over the required age, then what difference does it make if the ID expired last year? Does that make the individual any younger? She called all the other security guards and informed them that an Asian male in a grey shirt was trying to enter with an expired ID. We went to another entrance and immediately received a 'HOLD ON you are the one that tried to enter with an expired ID at the front entrance !!!!!'Well, as it turned out, the ID was not expired. I put on my glasses and verified the date and the ID expires in December of this year. We lost an hour complaining and trying to talk to various employees about how unfair it was for him not to be able to enter the casino. When we brought it to the attention of the front entrance security guard that she had made a mistake, she accused my friend of presenting a different ID previously. While in the casino, I felt as though I were being watched. Yes, I know that everyone is being watched in any casino. But I felt like everyone was suspicious of me, and paying more attention to me than other people. This could have been because of the problems we had trying to get my friend into the casino, I dont know. My suspicions were confirmed one time as I was walking out the door to go to my car. I heard over the front security guards radio something about the white male in the green and white shirt that was currently passing through the door. That white male in the green and white shirt was me! I dont like people suspecting me of things when I have done absolutely nothing wrong! I rate the Horseshoe Casino a 0 for Service.THE HOTEL ROOMThe room at first appeared to be nice. There were two double beds, and the bathroom had a large tub. The refrigerator was off and the knob used to turn it on was missing. No microwave. The cooling system was noisy and did not cool well. The beds were extremely comfortable, however. I did not see a place to plug into the Internet. The WiFi required entering of registration info to access or pay with a credit card. I didnt know the name my friend registered the room under (I dont know his full Chinese name and he was 'glued' to the craps table) so I was stuck without Internet. My cell phone would not work in my room unless I held my head pressed against the window of the room. I use Verizon, but my friend has AT&T and also had the same issues. I overheard several people complaining that their cell service did not work well in the casino or hotel. The previous night I had stayed Americas Best Value Inn down the street. The room was half the price of a room at Horseshoe. Though it didnt have the large tub and nice couch, it did have a working AC, working Fridge, working (hassle-free) Internet, iron, ironing board, Microwave and FREE breakfast. I guess the convenience of walking from the room at Horseshoe to the casino is supposed to be more of a value than actually having working appliances in the room. I, however, disagree. OH ... and my cell service worked great in my room at Americas Best Value Inn.I rate the Appeal and Facilities of the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel as 1 (Good) but nothing special.

I, along with 2 of my co-workers, just checked out of the hotel this morning after staying 2 nights. It has been the most horrible experience i have ever encountered at a hotel. Our municipality pre-paid our rooms and resort fees with a check but when we got there they wanted a card for damage deposit, which is fine and completely normal. I checked my account later that day and the damage deposits for all 3 rooms, plus the resort fees (which were already paid with the check) were all pending on my account. I called the front desk about it and they said it would be released in the 3-5 days with the deposits. No big deal. On Tuesday, after the morning session of our conference, I went back to my room to plug my phone up while I eat lunch downstairs. Game back to get it and housekeeping had been there and the phone was gone. No one at the hotel even pretended to care or be helpful. Already pissed off about the phone, I went to check out this morning and the lady at the front desk said she needed a credit card for the 3rd room. I explained that we already paid by check. She apologized and told me that those funds would be IMMEDIATELY credited back to my account. When I left the counter, I checked my bank account on my phone and the hotel had charged me deposits, resort fees, 2 rooms for 2 nights. The only thing that should have been charged was a refundable deposit of $150 for the rooms. But I was looking at over $400 of charges which had my account overdrawn. After talking to hotel manager and a billing supervisor, the best the could give me was sorry but it will take 7-10 business days to show back up in the account as a credit. They were very rude through the entire process and everyones story on how the process works was different. It come down to the fact that I am out the cost of cell phone ($200) because of their thieving housekeeping staff and $250+ (which will eventually be credited but doesnt help me now) because there front desk clerks are ignorant. I will NEVER stay at Horseshoe again and always give it a scathing review when it comes up.

Good stay...not the best but good. Have stayed here several times. The staff was helpful and friendly. Everyone Employee that worked on Christmas Day need to be recognized by management!!!!!!!! Each had a smile on their face and positive attitude in every area we were in..... Hotel, Casino and restaurant which made it a very pleasant experience. With that being said, here are the negatives:We receive email offerings during the year for free stays. My husband and I work jobs that do not allow us to take off without giving at least 2 weeks notice or more. Also our off days are different so we dont have the luxury that most guest have of hopping in the car and diving down for a couple to days.Email offerings should be flexible if not for full free nights at least half off.And a HUGE NEGATIVE....Having to pay a 'resort fee' to be able to use the WIFI is AWFUL especially with a 2 device minimum. We both are government employees, and stay at Holiday Inn when traveling on business and/or personal trips. We have NEVER had to pay for WIFI.We always have to work on our trips even when they are vacations.Due to this, we will look at other Casinos in the area before booking at Horseshoe again.
